Chris Wilcox• The Thunder have acquired Tyson Chandler from the Hornets in exchange for Chris Wilcox and Joe Smith. It’s a cost-cutting move for New Orleans, as Chandler will make $11.9 million next season and has a player option for $12.8 million in 2010-11, while both Wilcox and Smith have expiring deals.

Wilcox would immediately regain fantasy relevance as the starting center for the Hornets, where he could approach his career-best numbers catching lobs from Chris Paul (like Chandler was supposed to be doing). He’s worth an immediate speculative add in plenty of formats. If Chandler couldn’t get things going alongside Paul, then there isn’t a lot of hope for him elsewhere and he remains at best a middling fantasy option – once he’s healthy enough to return to the lineup, he will serve to squash Nick Collison‘s numbers and cloud Nenad Krstic‘s role.

Jason Richardson has been suspended by the Suns for one game (Tuesday) after he was charged with driving 90 mph in a 35 mph zone on Sunday night. He spent a few hours in jail and was charged with reckless driving and excessive speed, and also endangerment and failure to use a child seat as his three-year-old son was found unrestrained in the back seat. J-Rich, of course, has already apologized profusely for the incident. Leandro Barbosa and Matt Barnes will see extra minutes versus the Clippers.

    • In more substantive Suns news, the team has abruptly ended the Terry Porter era, naming Alvin Gentry as interim coach. Consistency was cited as the reason for the move but it’s no secret that most of the team’s vets were unhappy with the system that Porter had put in place, and many had anticipated that Gentry – also an assistant under Mike D’Antoni – would be named as the coach after D’Antoni departed this offseason. Gentry’s Suns will return to their up-tempo ways:

“We are who we are. I think we have to go back to trying to establish a breakneck pace like we’ve had in the past. We have to open more lanes for Steve (Nash). He’s the best at what he does in the business and then we’ve got to get Amar’e (Stoudemire) and Shaq (Shaquille O’Neal) and those guys still involved.”

That kind of talk is music to just about any fantasy owner’s ears, as the Suns’ team scoring is currently down 5.7 points from last season. It also appears that the Suns are no longer interested in dealing away Amar’e Stoudemire, and instead will make a run with the team intact. In general, it’s safe to expect a rejuvenated Suns’ team to perform fairly well moving forward – Shaq may be the only notable Sun who stands to lose fantasy impact, as he can’t help but be less involved in an up-tempo offense.

Tracy McGrady will spend at least the next few days seeking out additional opinions on what he called “a real significant problem” with his perpetually balky knee. Figure on Ron Artest starting when T-Mac doesn’t, and Von Wafer gains a bit more relevance, as well. And don’t be surprised if T-Mac finds and follows an opinion that he needs to shut things down indefinitely.

Antonio McDyessAntonio McDyess is currently rostered in one-third of Yahoo! leagues, but that number is due for a boost now that he’s been named to the starting lineup. If you could use something near a double-double with low turnovers and occasional defensive stats from a center-eligible player, then consider adding ‘Dyess.

Luke Ridnour is way ahead of schedule, so this might be a good time to think about picking him up if he were dropped in your league (his current Yahoo! ownership level is 25 percent). You may want to check for Delonte West first, as he’s also getting close.

    • A Saturday MRI revealed a bone chip in Greg Oden‘s left knee, but his agent (Mike Conley’s dad) had the following to say:

“I don’t think it’s that serious at all. He’s going to rest it. After he hurt it (against Golden State), he went back in the game, and that’s where I think the swelling came from. It’s a game-by-game situation, but it’s more precautionary than anything.”

    • If you have yet to cut ties with Andrew Bynum in a non-keeper league, this update will probably be enough to convince you to make a roster move.

    • Various trade rumblings: Vince Carter continues to be mentioned in a number of scenarios … with plenty of teams thinking strictly in terms of the bottom line, the Sixers say they will only deal Andre Miller and his expiring contract “if it makes basketball sense” for the team … the T-Wolves aren’t eager to deal Mike Miller but would trade Rashad McCants for just about anything … the Kings are facing massive financial losses and figure to be one of most active teams behind the trade deadline scenes.

Note: stayed tuned for a new poll, the unveiling of a new application, and of course reaction to all the trade deadline deals over the next few days.

new application….wooooo! im assuming wilcox starts doing really well with paul around him now

      • jdubb_00 says:

I agree! I see him doing well….paul makes the people around him well. I can forecast a 14 and 7 for sure! look at wilcox’s game log over the last couple years….with minutes, he can deliver!

    2. joeyd0005 says:

Hey Matt – Who do ya like from here on out – Wilcox or Blatche?

    3. joeyd0005 says:

For that matter, would you drop either Augustin, Delonte West, or Ridnour for him? My team is already guard heavy, and its a 12 team H2H, I’m 90% likely for the playoffs.

    4. Ashley says:

Is anyone interested in joining a 3 sport keeper league? Baseball (5 keepers), Basketball (5 keepers), and Football (3 keepers). Need one manager to replace a team. It’s H2H, standard Yahoo! categories for each sport.

    5. leadvox says:

Prediction… Wilcox will start 6 games and go out with a bad back. Call me cookey. I would keep or trade your smalls Joey. If you wanna speculate, maybe get Beasley for one of them.

    6. Ashley says:

Since I think I saw that Buser will briefly cover baseball… If anyone is looking for a good fantasy baseball site, go check out razzball.com

    7. Kevin says:

oh man! i’ve dropped to the seventh seed. thanks ak47 and tyson chandler. i’ve also been (stupidly?) stowing away hawes, so a lot of my big man cats are withering, though i trudge on with brook lopez.

so i dropped jamario moon for wilcox. i thought about dumping hawes seeing as how a miller deal is unlikely, but what’s another two days? was that a good move, or should moon fester on the bench while o’neal gets to try and shine in the first few games as a heat? an heats. as a the heat.

    8. mhoub1186 says:

Went to check out Wilcox to maybe pick up, but the last place guy who never checks his teams still has him. Oh well, I would have had to drop Turiaf and that would have been a bad move.

Hey what do you guys think, I would love to pick up Delonte West but I don’t have many players to drop. JR Smith and Anthony Parker are my only options. Which one?

On a side note, Turkoglu is freakin killing me! Wish I could drop him.

      • leadvox says:

That’s a tough one, ’cause Smith is outperforming Parker, but his time on court is getting tanked and so are his stats as long as Mello is healthy. It was a good run but it’s at an end i’m thinkin. Parker is as inconsistant as a Northern CA weatherman, but this last trade may land him with more starter minutes. If it were me I would try and trade Smith before those 25 and 30 point games slide too far into the past and then drop Parker to get West, or visa versa. I would also scour the wire ’cause both Smith and Parker are avail in my league and everyone plays their team, which tells me there might be a better choice out there not rostered… Thadeous Young, Tyrus Thomas, Joakim Noah, Blacthe, Grant Hill, Steve Blake… I dunno just throwing names I am watching and would pick over either of the two you mentioned…

        • mhoub1186 says:

Thanks a lot. Smith has been good, but I agree his numbers have slipped and they will continue to do so unless there is another injury. Parker has great games, then lousy ones. After looking over the waiver wire (again), the only other possible pickup for me is Chalmers, but I like West better. The only one from your list that is available for me is Blake, but I’m not a big fan.

Not sure what I want to do…

          • Ryan says:

pickup West. he’ll be back in no time, and was a killer fantasy player, albeit an underrated one. Parker is way to up and down for me. just my opinion, but i’d get rid of him for West real quick-like.

    9. DCOPE says:

Quick question; input from all would be appreciated, especially Buser…

      Kirilenko or McDyess moving forward?

      Thanks in advance.

    10. Slamdrunk says:

      Straight to the point:

      14 team, H2H. (PG,SG,SF,PF,C, 3 Util’s, 3 Bench)
2nd place currently with 1.5 games behind the 1st.

I got this trade offer. What y’all think?

I give: Zach Randolph, Chris Duhon
I get: Mike Bibby, O.J. Mayo

      My current roster:
      Chris Duhon
      Joe Johnson
      LBJ
      LaMarcus Aldridge
      Yao Ming
      John Salmons
      Corey Maggette
      Zach Randolph
      Boris Diaw
      Marc Gasol
      Andrea Bargnani

Thanks in advance for your input.

      • Problem Gasolved says:

i look at it this way. how did your team do statistically in rebounding when Randolph was gone? if you can stand to take away those rebounds for good, make that trade. you will obviously increase in points and steals while staying basically the same in assists. i dont do percents so i dont know how that will effect it.

      • Ryan says:

That trade is close to dead even in a vacuum. It looks like you’ll probably make it into the playoffs, if you aren’t already in. Check what weeks your playoffs are, then look at Fantasy Monster’s schedule grid to see how many games they’ll play during each week of your playoffs. http://basketballmonster.com/schedulegrid.aspx

New York finishes off weeks 22 to 24 with 4 games in each. But Bibby’s numbers are down, so he should be on the rise sometime soon (I hope?). It’s a toss-up.

One thing’s for sure: keep your trade ideas away from from Randolph’s earshot. He might punch you.

      • mbuser says:

seems like a good trade for you, but i’m curious as to which categories you’ve done well/poorly in to this point of the season

    11. brasilsurdo7 says:

      My roster:
      PG – Chris Paul
      SG – Joe Johnson
      G – Devin Harris
      SF – Rudy Gay
      PF – Zach Randolph
      F – Al Harrington
      C – Big Z
      C – Brook Lopez
      Util – Manu Ginobili
      Util – Andrea Bargnani
      BN – Mike Miller
      BN – Mike Conley
      BN – Mario Chalmers

      Free Agent Pool:
Delonte West, Antonio McDyess, Spencer Hawes, Matt Bonner, Joakim Noah, Luke Ridnour, Jamario Moon and Grant Hill

Which to keep or dump? Mike Miller, Mike Conley or Mario Chalmers?

Which has better options in free agent pool? (I like West and McDyess)

Buser and folks, need your better advice. Thanks.

      • Problem Gasolved says:

honestly….i dont think there is better in the FA pool. everyone is all hyped on delonte west and i dont know why. you are a bit guard heavy and i could see possibly dropping conley or chalmers for McDyess. i like chalmers more out of the two guards tho. if the kings decide to get rid of brad miller though, hawes becomes the best choice for your team i think.

        • joeyd0005 says:

It’s close, but I would dump Chalmers for McDyess. The part of Chalmers’ game that makes him a good play, is his steal potential and his above average assist capability. But with your guards, I imagine you are doing just fine in those categories. McDyess is going to be very consistent from here on out; you got to love his line from last night.

      • mbuser says:

i think everyone is hyped on west because his numbers were so good before he got hurt

brasil, you are doing pretty well in the standings with that squad, yes? don’t make a move just to do it

        • brasilsurdo7 says:

I just got picked up Hawes for Conley after found about trade between Kings and Bulls. I’m going to keep chalmers if his assists and steals show up tonight. Also, I’m going to keep Mike Miller if he do very well tonight and friday games. I used to have Al Jefferson but he is out for year. Thanks buser, I appreciate it!

    12. vahnder says:

      Any news on dunleavy?

    13. Ashley says:

      Matt,

Do you think T-Mac will bounce back next year? Or atleast stay healthy and be able to play for most of the season?

I don’t know what exactly microfracture surgery is.. But SportsCenter just showed a list of players who have had it, and Chris Webber was the only one who was never the same afterwards.

T-Mac was still putting up solid numbers when healthy this season, so I was just wondering if he’ll be ready for the beginning of next year and whether or not those knee issues will linger. If he can stay healthy next season, I’d imagine he’ll be a good mid-late draft bargain.

      • mbuser says:

i’ve got zero reason to think t-mac will ever play most of a season. he’s a special case in terms of injury history

      • Ashley says:

The only reason I have is that he’ll be a FA after the season and wants to be apart of the big 2010 FA signings.

This guy clearly doesn’t play with much heart, but maybe the chance of a big contract will motivate him enough to play most of a season.

        • mbuser says:

if it were just about heart and motivation, i’d be more likely give him the benefit of the doubt. but i can’t do that when it comes to his body actually holding up

    14. JJJRod says:

So I just lost McGrady. I’m currently 1st in my 12 team H2H league by 12.5 games. So at this point I’m trying to gear up for playoff time.

My roster at this point is:

      PG – Ramon Sessions
      SG – Kobe Bryant
      G – T.J. Ford
      SF – Tracy McGrady
      PF – Charlie Villanueva
      F – Kevin Durant
      C – Rasheed Wallace
      C – Pau Gasol
      Util – Marcus Camby
      Util – Rudy Fernandez
      BN – Mario Chalmers
      BN – J.R. Smith
      BN – Anthony Parker

At this point I’m trying to gear up for playoff time. On the waiver wire I have:

Luke Ridnour, Shane Battier, Chris Wilcox, Andray Blatche, Matt Barnes, Marquis Daniels, Mickael Pietrus, Rodney Stuckey as potentials I’ve been eyeing. There is also Bynum, Nelson, and Arenas if there is still hope for them by playoff time.

I was thinking Ridnour since he should be back soon, but I already have Sessions and Charlie. They don’t play that many games down the stretch and think having 3 Bucks could hurt me. Any advice appreciated.

    15. DTS says:

Im in 3rd place in a 12 team h2h I was looking to do a trade that would gain me some games for the playoffs and upgrade my reb, stl, and blks. I was thinking maybe TJ Ford and Charlie V for Sammy D and Chalmers. What do you think? Or What could I get for charlie V and Tj ford not necessarily in a package deal, it’s just that chalmers and sammy d are on the same team

      My Roster:

      PG – Chris Duhon
      PG – TJ Ford
      PG – Mike Bibby
      PG,SG – Nate Robinson
      SG – Kevin Martin
      SG,SF – Caron Butler
      SG,SF – Josh Howard
      SF,PF – Charlie V
      PF – Kevin Garnett
      PF – David West
      PF,C – Ronny Turiaf
      C – Marc Gasol
      C – Kendrick Perkins

    16. leadvox says:

quick he’s not gonna last long… LOL!

    17. Ashley says:

I’m guessing Salmons value will take a hit if he’s coming off the bench in Chicago. Is Miller still injured or will he be good to go once he gets to Chicago?

    18. Ashley says:

I don’t think Tyrus is going anywhere… Especially now that Amare is apparently off the trade block.

I’m hoping that Tyrus benefits from the trade since Miller is a pretty good passer for a C.

According to Rotoworld, Salmons will come off the bench. I don’t have him, but a top 4 team in my league does, so I wouldn’t mind if his stats dipped a little.

    19. brasilsurdo7 says:

      Kings Lineup:
      PG – Udrih
      SG – Martin
      SF – Nocioni
      PF – Gooden
      C – Hawes

      Bulls Lineup:
      PG – Rose
      SG – Gordon
      SF – Salmons
      PF – Thomas
      C – Miller

Bulls – I don’t think Salmons will go to bench but his minutes will down to 25-30 due to share with Deng at SF. Noah will go to bench.

Kings – Hawes and Nocioni will be picked up immediately by fantasy owners. I don’t think Garcia will be starter for rest of season.

      • Ashley says:

The Kings are going nowhere this year. I don’t know why they wouldn’t start their young guys.. Garcia at SF and Thompson at PF for the rest of the season.

What makes you think Nocioni and Gooden would start? Is that just your speculation or did you see it somewhere? I’d be surprised if Gooden is even able to play more than 25 mins with his hernia.

    20. Joe says:

      buser,

Any thoughts on Terrence Kinsey starting? My memory of him is a little vague, but I was thinking Walter Hermann quality production per minute…

    21. Ryan says:

Looks like Wally Szczerbiak isn’t starting tonight, spurring last-minute trade speculation by Rotoworld and the Toronto Star.

Maybe a deal between the Cavs and Clippers is in the works. The most obvious deal would involve Camby going to play with Lebron, MVN.com says.

    22. rustygriswald says:

      Hey Buse and whomever.

I have a nice lead and I’m looking towards a playoff bye. I’m very strong in pts, assists, steals, and fg% pretty much always winning those categories.

I’m midgrade in rebs and blcks and was looking to improve those categories. I’m also very SF to PG heavy. I had a trade accepted in my Rose for his Camby, no others attached.

The league vetoed me with the reasoning that I become unbeatable with Camby joining my roster. I think that’s crap and we’re trying the trade again.

On first sight it seems one sided, but our league allows for a single keeper. The catch is that we redraft all other players, and whoever your keeper is you surrender a draft pick three rounds ahead of where they were previously taken. I took Rondo in the 8th and Rose in the 10th. I’m keeping Rondo for a 5th round tag next year, and he gets the rights to Rose in the 7th with this trade so ultimately I think that should even any lumps in the trade out.

      Your thoughts?

      • leadvox says:

I have Camby and I fear his Migraines, Ear aches, tooth aches, hang nails, and paper cuts will limit his playing time unless he gets traded to a contender. He was quoted at the end of a recent game storming off the court saying “we suck”, and they do. His blocks are down, his team is scrappin it’s not a good scene down there. I am trying to off him before the deadline, last year he got injured during the FBL Playoffs, I think he had some chaffing or some such keeping him from playing… Be wary. He may get shut down if things don’t drastically improve for him.

      • Problem Gasolved says:

stay away from camby dude….too big of a risk

    23. All-Stars13 says:

      Hey all.

      Love the site.

here is my squad in a 10 team (13 players per team league)H2H:

      Billups
      Hedo
      Mo Williams
      Iguadala
      David West
      Odom
      K. Love
      Andris Biendrens
      Bibby
      Stephen Jackson
      Yao Ming
      Ryan Gomes
      D.J. Augustine

I was hoping DJ would be starting for the bobcats.. but it is not looking like that will happen.

      a) Should I make a free agent move by moving DJ Augustine?
If so who should I pickup?

I am debating Francisco Garcia, as he may be poised to start and average 1 stl/1blk/1 3pter which would be nice. Should I move for him or stick with DJA for his explosive abilities?

i am looking to add someone who gets stls/3s blks and assists would be a bonus.

Other FAs around are wilson Chandler, Marc Gasol, rafer alston, jamario moon, ronnie brewer.

      • Problem Gasolved says:

Mcgrady is done for the season and alston has always done well without him. id take a good look at him. wont get blocks but assists and some steals would be nice

        • All-Stars13 says:

yeah, alston is another guy i am considering. i had a good run with him last year. my only issue with him is a not-so-hot playoff schedule, and i already have yao as a rocket… i hate these close-call moves.
this would not be an issue at all had al jefferson not gone down, that was who was in my 13th spot previously, hurt so bad.

          • Problem Gasolved says:

yea…it does look like you could use some rebounds. no big men available? mcdyess, hawes, wilcox?

            • All-Stars13 says:

wilcox is the guy available on that front.
              yao/andris/love/odom/west have been doing okay.

do you think i could really use a rebound boost?

my train of thought was to try and go for an all around guy to get the “money stats” 3, Stl, blks etc… but i am not sure maybe you are right, i did give wilcox a look also seeing as chris paul should help him out.

              • All-Stars13 says:

sorry to add to my own comment, i guess my main question is:

is it time to give up on dj augustine putting up any more big games?

                • Ryan says:

I think it’s safe to cut Augustin with both Wallace and Bell back. He just won’t be getting the minutes for the rest of the season. His game log shows he doesn’t produce big lines with limited minutes.

    24. Ryan says:

Jason Terry is out til late March, the Dallas Morning News reports.

Do you think Terry is worth hanging on to? Conley, Nocioni and K. Azubuike are all on the wire. Should I pick up one of them?

      Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

      • All-Stars13 says:

i really like conley personally. great schedule coming up and he is going to have minutes coming out of his ears.

i think with terry out so long, you can do better, then try to scoop him during the playoffs if he comes back.

      • Problem Gasolved says:

always a risk….think your team can survive without the points?

        • Ryan says:

oof. Tough decision here. My scoring and threes don’t look too shabby with J. Terry out.

          Here’s my roster:

          CP3
          Delonte West
          Bibby
          J.Rich
          Jason Terry **

          V.Carter
          Rashard Lewis
          Diaw
          Tyrus Thomas
          Al Horford
          Paul Millsap

          Camby
          Spencer Hawes

          Thanks in advance.

          • Problem Gasolved says:

its up to you really. if you have been doing alright without west…you could think about sitting and waiting for terry since no one in the FA will get you that many points. like buser always says….dont make a trade just for the sake of doing one.

      • mhoub1186 says:

I’ve got Terry too, I think I will drop him. Somebody snatched up West because I picked up Chalmers instead and dropped Parker. But as for replacements for Terry, do you guys think Battier will put up decent numbers with T-mac done for the year? Other options include Hinrich and flip murray. I need points and 3s to replace Terry.

    25. Problem Gasolved says:

why is rotoworld reporting that the cavs might be interested in getting a big man for wally? i hope its to get rid of wallace and not my beloved big Z

    26. Thatguy says:

Now that the three team trade looks like it is going through, what are people’s thoughts on Hawes moving forward? Would you take him over Mike Miller, Dalembert, or Dunleavy?

    27. Farmer says:

Rumor going around that Chandler failed his physical.

Heard that during the 1st half of the Memphis v Portland game.

    28. Ryan says:

      Buser,

Would you drop J.Terry or Delonte West for Mike Conley?

    29. hyde says:

In what order would you guys rate these players for the rest of the season

      Ak47 G.wallace Josh smith

I am fixing on moving them possibly.
