• Some more details are emerging regarding Gilbert Arenas‘ comeback. Add it all up and the result is that he isn’t likely to help the Wizards or fantasy teams in the eight or so games where an appearance is being planned. He’ll be a full participant in practices for three of the next four days, and could return to the court on Saturday if there are no problems. Arenas said he’ll use the season’s remaining games as a “trial and error” period:
“One game, I might work only on outside shots. Another game I’m just gonna attack the basket. Do things like that just to work on getting my body used to doing what it used to do.”
I might be slightly more inclined to consider his services if he were simply planning on playing basketball, but that’s clearly not the case – on the 16-56 Wizards, he apparently will be free to experiment. Set expectations very low and plan accordingly.
• Read this Pacers blog post and you get the idea that T.J. Ford will be coming off the bench the rest of the way:
“When he was in Toronto, he surrounded himself with perimeter guys. This is a different situation,” Jim O’Brien said. “It’s a matter of him not getting totally comfortable in his role in the offense as I envisioned it. I always thought it would take him into the next year to fully get it.”
O’Brien added that Danny Granger and Troy Murphy are the only players who are guaranteed a starting spot on a nightly basis, but for now Brandon Rush does appear to be locked in at shooting guard. One thing to keep in mind: the Pacers are tied for the second-fewest games remaining on the schedule (11).
• Things aren’t improving for Luol Deng and he’s very close to being officially ruled out for the remainder of the season.
• Will we see Leandro Barbosa any time before the end of the Suns’ three-game road trip that runs through Sunday?
“I don’t think so,” Barbosa said of playing on the trip that has weekend stops at Utah and Sacramento. “If I feel that I’m OK, I need to practice first and make sure I’m OK. If I have the time to practice and go on the road trip feeling good, OK, no problem. But, if not, I’m going to take care of that. Because I remember the first time I hurt my knee, I came back too early, and I hurt myself again. I don’t want it to come back.”
Barbosa suffered the injury six days ago and added that a a bruised knee can take “a couple weeks” to heal. Alvin Gentry said the team “won’t stick him out there with any risk at all.” The Suns have four games remaining in the current week, and Jared Dudley is the competitive-league add here – over the past five games, he’s averaged 10.4 points on 61 percent shooting, 0.8 threes, 5.4 boards, 2 assists, and 1.4 steals in 24 minutes.
• Jermaine O’Neal sat Monday’s game because of a bruised right hip, but said it was because of the schedule, definitely just one game, and that the injury isn’t a concern at all.
• Pistons news: Richard Hamilton and Rasheed Wallace are out again on Tuesday, as is Allen Iverson. AI is getting closer, although he didn’t speak with reporters on Tuesday.

and caron butler could be out another week, meaning andray blatche should stay very viable
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/wizardsinsider/2009/03/bulls_101_wizards_99.html?wprss=wizardsinsider
luckily i kept him =D
Hey Buser, I’m in my first week of playoffs and I have Larry Hughes and Rasheed Wallace. Should I drop one of them (probably Hughes) for Flip Murray?
Andray Blatche is a FA as well.
hughes has 5 games in the next seven days, so i’d wait to see if this toe injury is going to keep him out any longer. murray gets SA and BOS for his next two games, so it’s hard to think he’ll have big numbers against either. sheed should be back thursday, so you can’t really drop him now
if hughes does end up needing a few more off, i would jump on blatche though
Thanks Buser. I haven’t said this yet, but I love the site. This and Rotoworld is pretty much my go-to sites for fantasy basketball. Keep up the good work!
Do you think Delonte West is going to pick it back up at any point to his pre-injury numbers? I have a bye this week but I’m thinking of streaming both him and Barbosa next week (unless Barbosa comes back before next week and shows he’s at near full health)
nobody needed two days off more than west. his back has been bothering him and that’s why his boards and FG% are way down. if he has another stinker versus NJ, it’s not a great sign
Ouch, I think I’m feeling some pain now. Who’s worse off health wise — Delonte West or Chris Duhon?
As for Barbosa, it appears he won’t be back for another two weeks.
i posted this to the last weekly rundown but figured i’d post again here:
is caron butler ever going to be able to be dropped? i’m in an 8 team league that’s stacked and he’s expendable.
my roster:
G: Wade, Joe Johnson, Vince Carter, Terry, Salmons, Ginobili
F: Melo, Butler, Maggette, Ariza, Tyrus Thomas
F/C: Duncan, Nene, Brad Miller, Zach Randolph
I’m pretty loaded at all spots, but so are all the other playoff teams, so I was thinking of picking up a one cat stud like Chalmers or Turiaf just for that little extra boost. Anything is better than Butler’s zeros…
yeah he should be off sooner than later…
Do you think k-mart is worth picking up or was yesterday just a lucky game against a running team and will he continue getting decent minutes down the stretch or will Karl rest him up?
well i certainly was at least under the impression that his minutes would be somewhat controlled down the stretch. it really depends on who else you would be looking at
umm, i only see kmart option to blk and stl
only if u need those cat
but gonna take a hit on the FT
that hinrich pickup suddenly looking a bit better
http://www.suntimes.com/sports/basketball/bulls/1493407,rose-wrist-injury-miss-032409.article
damniiiiittt
i dropped him yesterday in hopes that i can pick him up again for the weekend and stream others thru friday, and missing his thursday game against Miami since I think he’s gonna be a stinker against wade and chalmers
hopefully no one picks him up…
but how serious is rose’s injury
if its just one game thing or even two, then im cool with that since rose will be back in the starting by the weekend i assume if this is not serious (bruise wrist)
3-4 days of rest should be more than enough right buse?
How serious is Rose’s injury? I have a bye this week but Hinrich is on the waiver wire currently. Do you think Rose’s injured wrist will sideline him into next week?
they aren’t saying that now, but it sounds serious enough that it could
“Rose has a severely bruised right wrist, which he also said is sprained. He was hurt Monday on a dunk in the second quarter of the win at Washington. Rose said he has been told to rest for two or three days. He said his wrist is so sore, he can’t turn a door knob.”
http://www.suntimes.com/sports/basketball/bulls/1493407,rose-wrist-injury-miss-032409.article
and the bulls only have 2 games next week (IND, NJ)
hey buser, i have a bye this week for the playoffs and so i’m really looking at the 2 weeks ahead. butler and iverson are on the waivers, and reading your updates, it appears like both could play within these next 2 weeks. should i pick them up?
AI and Thornton is on the waivers for me, just dropped today, so will be available in two days…
should i pick them up
im still going against the guy, but he dropped both players to face me…
i have a good lead on him right now, should i use my waivers on either of these guys?
I see AI being the later and Thornton being back in shape faster
who would you drop? it’s a pretty close call, although DET has 4 games to LAC’s 3 next week
i have anyone, i have a stream spot on my team atm
yesterday it was hinrich, today its rush, tomro its rudy fernandez, im gonna add and drop until i get either Thornton or AI
how’s each of their schedule like? as in opponents? what’s ur opinion on it…?
since AI is still not gonna play for Thursday’s game…
Thornton is still underperforming…
i need cats in 3s, steals, blks and maybe increase in somt FT%(pts reb is pretty much secure)
- both players does not help in the 3s i think, not much at least….
- steals AI gets the edge but this depends on how much minutes he plays… and if rip ham is back before him, for sure AI is gonna be from the bench…
- blks would obviously be Thornton, but he doesnt get much either..
so buse, which one do u think is better to pick up…. if u really need to pick overall? Do you think AI will be back by next week? Is it worth using my 2nd priority on either of these players?
i guess i’ll take AI just for the 4 games versus 3. and he’s not exactly prime waiver material, but it’s doubtful that #2 slot will be worth saving at this stage of the season
yeah it makes sense to add butler if you are on a bye. if he’s back in the lineup then the numbers will be there for the most part, if not you send him back to waivers. as for AI, it just depends what you need and who you’d drop – low-efficiency scoring with a few AST/STL are what he’ll bring in ~30 min
looks like sjax is dangerously close to being shut down for the season
http://www.ibabuzz.com/warriors/2009/03/24/jax-going-on-the-shelf/
anthony morrow, belinelli, and cj watson would be the beneficieries
does o’brien’s “guaranteed starters” comment indicate to you granger should be playing out the rest of the season? can we put the idea of him shutting it down to rest yet?
well i think the understood qualification for granger is ‘if he’s 100%’. they won’t take any chances with him, but they won’t shut him down just to do it either
I thought the “consensus” was that Granger was playing with a bad knee, overcompensating for the knee was what lead to his foot, and that if they were out of playoff contention he’d be seeing fewer minutes if not shut down altogether for surgery.
At this point I suppose they have to throw him out there just to look competitive.
i guess it’s anyone’s guess at this point
Hey buse.. a fan of your site first time commenting.
I was wondering why in my yahoo fantasy basketball league im not able to drop shawn marion.. i read a few posts back someone was able to drop him. what gives?
also, when do you think granger will shut it down? they’re about 5 games behind chicago at the moment and i dont see them making grounds with their current rate.
if it’s a private league, then it may not be using the can’t cut list. marion should be off, i’m not exactly sure what the hold-up is
like i said previously, i don’t think they will shut him down just to do it. if he doesn’t have any setbacks, he could play out the schedule
hey buser, how long do u think murphy will be out? more than 2 weeks? should i drop him? foster just got picked up…
Man I’m freaked a bit, I’m already injured like crazy, (Manu, KG, Kaman, Biedrens (dropped), Wallace (dropped)) and now murphey goes down!
I’m down 7-4 and its rebounds and orebs that im trailing in..
I’m considering dropping Murphy today to pick up someone like thompson or foster….considering the kings play friday and sun….
MCL strain even if mild i would suspect them to rest him a bit seeing as how there is no rush….I spent some time googling his injury and couldn’t really come up with anything.
I think it’s safe to say he may be dropped by myself tonight if I don’t hear anything about his condition.
rotoworld is saying it’s grade 1 sprain so that’s relatively good news, but we won’t know anything until after his MRI. probably not looking good
Anthony Morrow had a nice game Wednesday night and it looks like S-Jax might be shut down for the remainder of the season very soon. With these developments, would you advocate dropping McGuire, Francisco Garcia, Sefolosha, or Larry Hughes for Morrow?
four games from morrow might be better than three games from mcguire next week
marvin williams is feelin better on his back injury. he is on my waiver wire in a 14 team league. is he a great pick up? any researches? who to keep on the team for my last (2) roster spots? jared dudley, ridnour, brandon rush, will bynum, farmar, mike taylor or mensah-bonsu? im on a bye week right now. thanks in advance for the reply.
I’d drop Taylor, but that’s my eternal pessimist.
Hey Buse, thanks for all the info you given me this fantasy year but I had a quick question on T.Chandeler. I have had him for the last couple of 2-3 weeks and have had really no production. I am in a heated battle in the first round of the playoffs and AST, REB, STL, BLKS are basically separated by 1-3 points right now. So I opted to drop Chandeler and pick up C.Smith from Min. Do you think that was a good move? I might still have the option to pick T.Chan back up but wanted to see what you thoought of the move. I was even looking at A.Randolph from GSW since Morrow was scooped up a while ago. What about that move?
smith is better than nothing, but barely. chandler *shouldn’t* be much longer, so be ready to grab him
So just a couple weeks ago I talked about the stupidity of Al Harrington and Jason Richardson… And what a surprise, they’re back at it again..
3 weeks ago against the Clippers, Al Harrington hung on the rim and slapped the backboard at the end of the game when the Knicks were up 3 pts.. Clippers made a FT and a basket to send the game to OT, and beat the Knicks in OT.
Last night against the Clippers again.. The moron does the SAME EXACT THING!! And the Clippers send the game to OT, and beat the Knicks, AGAIN. Dantoni should’ve gone Sprewell on Al Harrington. I saw him chew Harrington out on the sidelines, but come on.. Kick that selfish loser off the team!!
And last night in the Phoenix game, tie game in the 4th quarter.. JRich tries a fancy alley-oop, and misses again! But the Suns went on to win atleast.
I can’t stand those 2 players. Just from looking at their blank faces you can tell that they’re the stereotypical NBA player who will be broke 3 years after he’s out of the NBA. And Richardson driving like 90 mph in a 35 mph zone with a child in the car.. These players really get on my nerves, they don’t deserve $50 million contracts.
AND he had the gall to go for 38 and 7.
Only a selfish player cares about stats!!! They lost!
There were 280 pts scored in that game. He had Zach Randolph guarding him, who cares if he scored 38 pts??? His stupidity cost the Knicks once again, and that’s what matters.
>>Only a selfish player cares about stats!!! They lost!<<
Look Ashley, we’re talking fantasy here so I do care about stats and I’m not being selfish
. And we don’t keep track of whether a team wins or loses in fantasy.
But I get your point about winning and losing in real games which I happen to agree with. There is no place for selfish or bone-headed plays if it’s going to cost your team a win. However, where we differ is the treatment of the *selfish* player. It does not rule them out for being on my real (or fantasy) team. If they continue to make selfish plays and keep costing the team games, then it’s another matter.
Look Jason, don’t respond to my comment then if you only talk fantasy sports. Thanks. This site isn’t strictly fantasy sports.. It’s a sports site where you can get fantasy advice.
Fantasy sports are nothing but numbers. I’m talking about the actual person. Al Harrington is worthless. He’s not a leader, his teammates don’t respect him, and his coaches can’t stand him. If he makes a highlight on ESPN, it’s because he did something idiotic. There’s a reason why he’s on a new team every other year.
The point that I was trying to make is that he’s a selfish player and I’m surprised it only took him 3 weeks to do the same exact thing to cost his team the game. And Harrington clearly doesn’t get it, because when D’Antoni was screaming at him you can see Harrington trying to make his case why he didn’t think he did anything wrong.
Now go away Mr. Bourne, the CIA is after you. You probably have more important things to do than defending Al Harrington’s actions.
Well, the site is sub-titled “fantasy basketball information, analysis, and discussion” and, from what I’ve seen, your post is the only one not related to fantasy, so I think Jason Bourne has a good point and there are probably more appropriate places for your post than this. Also, by the way you talk about Al Harrington, it’s obvious you have a huge crush on the guy.
i couldn’t care less what subjects are discussed as long as everyone is respectful to one another, so think it through before we go any further down the pike with this one
j-rich just missed a dunk, nothing more. there was no embellishment. and he made that fantastic play (3/4 court pass) on the next possession, so i think all was forgiven
yeah i saw.. pretty nice play. like i said, they won. but if okur had made that 3 after the missed dunk, it would’ve been a bigger deal.
Hey Matt,
Is there any update on Mike Miller? I read he “pulled up lame” in the fourth quarter last night and cannot think of a less helpful bit of information. I need some rebounds since I already lost Troy Murphy this week (to go with butler and Crawford). Any word on Miller would be really helpful.
no update as of my posting this, other than mchale is going to get creative with his lineup
http://www.startribune.com/sports/wolves/41952712.html
Drop Josh Smith for Hawes? The eight games over two weeks would be nice and Smoov’s percentages are killing me.
if josh smith is your worst player, you must be pretty well off. he’s had a few bad games but is shooting 48% FG since the AS break. obviously the FT% is down
Hi Matt,
I have a bye this week, for the H2H playoffs, and I’m worried about Andris Biedrins. I need to secure rebs and blks so that I will have a strong chance of winning my matchup next week. Should I wait for the Apr injury update on Andris Biedrins or should I just use his spot to stream players like Collison, Foster, Dampier and Blatche?
My team:
Lebron, Jason Terry, Mike Conley, Eric Gordon, Odom, Hughes, Alridge, Nene, Brandon Roy, Camby, Diaw, OJ Mayo and Biedrins.
His lineup: most of his players have 4 games next week which scares me a bit.
CP3, Carmelo Anthony, Billups, Blake, Stuckey, McDyess, Jamison, Kaman, Perkins, Ilgauskas, Varejao, Horford, Lowry, Scola and Bargnani
other noteworthy free agents are:
Duhon,Fernandez, Hinrich, Roger Mason, Sefolosha, Andersen, Craig Smith, Nick Young, and Dampier
Thanks in advance.
I forgot to include: Westbrook and Jason Thompson are also on my team. Thanks
well man my guess is that biedrins wont be much help to you next week at all, but i can’t say with any assurance either way what will happen with him. i’ll say this – names don’t matter at this point, just production
the knicks have 5 games next week, so duhon could be a pickup. the knicks play four games from mon-fri, then you could try to drop him for a player with sat/sun games and get 6 games from the one roster spot
Thanks Matt. I already dropped Biedrins for Duhon. I checked the NYK sched and they have games on Monday, Tuesday, Sat and Sun. I will probably drop Duhon and Hughes as soon as the sched is locked for tuesday game and stream 2 spots from wed to friday and try to get them again by weekend, if not I can get other players for Sat cause Sundays sked is pretty loaded already. Thanks.
Matt,
Any recent news about Biedrins’ injury? He is currently waiver wire material, and I’m debating on picking him up.
he should be re-evaluated within a few days, but was always expected to be out until at least april 1
http://www.contracostatimes.com/ci_11937895
Id like to add Morrow for tomorrow, is it worth dropping Shawn Marion or Troy Murphy to pick up Morrow for tomorrow and the rest of the year?
Morrow could get some extended minutes and a starter role, and we have seen what he is capable of.
Marion has been playing horribly since joining the Raptors, BUT, the raptors do have an easy schedule coming up, will the Matrix deliver?
I am in a close race for this week, currently ahead 5-4, but could go either way. What are your thoughts?
thats a tough one. murphy is currently day-to-day but there really haven’t been any details come out since his MRI
http://www.nba.com/pacers/news/matchups_090328.html
marion has been bad, so i can see dropping him. you may want to think about picking him back up for next weekend though, as the raptors have a home-and-home with the knicks
if some excess offense will push you over the top, morrow makes some sense
Hey Matt, I got an emergency sit/start question for tomorrow (Saturday). I’m in a tight H2H battle this week, basically tied in FGM, FTM, PTS, and STL. Who’s the best play tomorrow out of:
L.Ridnour
G.Arenas
J.Crawford
I heard rumours that not only will Ridnour be back tonight, but he could start.
Arenas should play Saturday, and start, but could be limited to around 25 minutes.
With news of Stephen Jackson shutting it down, and Maggette out Saturday, GS only has 8 healthy bodies left, including Crawford. What are the chances Nellie lets him loose? Crawford would be the best play if I knew he’d get 30+ minutes, but I can’t find any additional info whether he’ll play or not anywhere.
i wouldn’t touch arenas in his first game back vs DET. i’m expecting low FG% and high TO. no freaking clue what nellie will do, so i guess tentatively plan to go with ridnour and see if anything surfaces tomorrow to make you feel better about crawford
it’s actually an add/drop, not a sit/start, so i’d have to make the move tonight, essentially ruling out crawford. FG%, AST, 3PTM and TOs don’t matter at all, as they’re all out of reach for or against me. all that matters is FGM, FTM, PTS, and STL which arenas could realistically outperform ridnour in given more minutes. i’ll watch ridnour tonight, but if he only plays 15-20 minutes, i think i gotta roll the dice on arenas.
hey buse,
im lookin at my waiver wire and see anthony morrow and troy murphy are on there. i saw the update on murphy but feel confident he will come back by next week. im streaming 2 spots on my roster this week and have 7 moves left. so obviously im trying to figure out who will come thru 4 me with these last few moves. i picked up b-rush and ariza, and will pick up varejao when he clears waivers. wut kind of production do u see morrow having if in fact sjax is gna shut it down??? should i risk picking up murphy when he clears waivers on sunday??? btw, im looking ok for this wks playoff matchup…
thanx buse!!!
some points and threes from morrow. as for murphy, still no official comment on his MRI.
“Another who is out is the Pacers’ Troy Murphy who sprained the medial collateral ligament in his left knee during the team’s shoot-around prior to their game March 25th. We have covered the MCL before, it’s a big ligament on the inside of the knee that stabilizes that side of the joint. Usually, for a minor sprain there, you’re talking a couple weeks minimum so Murphy may have played his last games this season but this type of thing usually results from a contact injury, not likely during your routine shoot-around. Apparently coach Jim O’Brien had to answer that question because he made the comment that his shoot-arounds are really full contact practices and the injury resulted from Murphy running through a screen. That make more sense, but either way, it doesn’t sound promising for him to make big contributions the rest of the way.”
http://www.nba.com/fantasy/features/streetclothes_032709.html
Any word on Camby’s injury? Safe to drop him? He hasn’t been that productive lately anyways…
looks like he will be out for at least 1-2 weeks, already dropped him
having bad luck with injuries in my league, i’ve got Murphy, Camby, Kidd
ya, I’ve got Camby, Peja, and ‘Sheed. I’m done. So I dropped Camby and picked up Gil just for giggles… Next year I’ll have this sight bookmarked from the beginning. Thanks for all your help and input Buser and friends. This site is simply awesome. CYA all next year!
oh ya and I have Robinson and Boozer… Did I mention I was done?
I will say though I went from dead last, to making the playoffs this year and a lot of it was because of this site.
I am finishing the last couple of days in my bye week in a very competitive league. I am ready to pull the trigger on radical drops (Kevin Garnett) and more obvious ones (Michael Beasley), and I am sitting on a pretty wire at the current moment. First, my team:
Standard 12-Man League (Regular cats. + FGM, 3PT%, OREB, TO’S)
G: Steve Nash, Randy Foye, Mike Conley, Ramon Sessions
F: Kevin Durant, Kevin Garnett, Tyrus Thomas, Matt Barnes, Michael Beasley
C: Dwight Howard, David Lee, Jason Thompson
I’m willing to drop:
Sessions (four games next week, but just four in finals as well)
Beasley (won’t win me any championships but i’ve enjoyed the ride)
Garnett (two sub-24 minute games coming out.. may never hit 30+)
Barnes (while he was a consensus “smart pick” for his five-game week, unless he finishes the weekend hot I don’t like his odds to finish strong even if the Suns are totally out of contention)
Locks: Nash, Howard, Durant, Lee
And of a lesser note: Thompson, Conley
Even lesser note: Thomas (hot, but two-game week), Foye (inconsistent)
Free Agents: Delonte West, Chris Andersen, Larry Hughes, Nick Collison, Joakim Noah, Courtney Lee, Andray Blatche, Thabo Sefolosha, Aaron Brooks, Anthony Randolph, Anthony Morrow, Rafer Alston, Anderson Varejao… to name a few
I’m considering Hughes for Barnes, Blatche for Garnett, and if Thabo is still available, swap his six game finals for Sessions four at the end of next week.
Thoughts?
I say go get Morrow, he has been monstrous when he gets the minutes in the past, and I think he’s ready to put up some big numbers in a four game week. I’d even look into streaming a spot of two with a FA pool that tasty.
agreed here. morrow is making 50% of his threes and is exceptionally low TO. and in regards to streaming: hughes mon/tue, delonte thu/fri, andersen sat/sun and that’s six games from one spot
I’ve added Anthony Randolph for KG following his sweet double-double. Earlier I swapped Barnes and Hughes which looks bad tonight, but it helped max out my possible games played for the week. Out of a possible eight players per day I’m staring down: 8, 7, 8, 1, 8, 8, 8. This is going to feel like another bye week.
