Now that Shaq is going to Cleveland, I dub him the Big Steamer.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=aw-shaq062409&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
wow. things are getting interesting. if the experiment falls flat, they can call him the big mistake by the lake
oh come on Matt.
the Big [Cleveland] Steamer works if he’s a bust or not
hahah very good point
this makes me so happy.
it would be awesome if shaq beats kobe in the finals.
its always awesome when Kobe gets beat, but that would be particularly hillarious.
damn, its fun to hate the lakers
i don’t know how you can defend the cavs now. lebron can either draw a double/triple team and lob an easy dunk to shaq, kick it out to mo for a wide open 3, or shaq can simply back everyone out of the lane to give lebron an easy dunk. i’d imagine it’ll get demoralizing for their opponents.
i still think the cavs should sign a bigger guard, but i don’t know who’s available.
what options are there?
matt barnes and anthony parker are the most logical choices, both UFA
t-mac for amare? that’s funny… i guess phx wants to completely start from scratch in 2 years.
this one doesn’t make a lot of sense. first and foremost scola would have to be involved
i’m surprised that t-mac is still getting this much respect.. is it mostly because of his expiring contract or does phoenix actually think t-mac is still a top player in the league?
from realGM: The Nets are in serious talks with the Magic about a deal that will send Vince Carter to Orlando for Rafer Alston, Tony Battie and Courtney Lee, according to a report from Chad Ford. This would likely mean Orlando doesn’t expect to re-sign Hedo Turkoglu.
oh wow. that’s rough. Where does Alston fit in with Harris? And would Battie (or another PF/C) just be used as further trade bait?
I thought Cleveland should make a good play for Hedo given Cleveland’s pockets.
i can’t help but think that the magic should be looking for a legit PF to move shard to SF and hedo to SG
The New Jersey Nets have agreed in principle to send Vince Carter(notes) and Ryan Anderson to the Orlando Magic for Rafer Alston(notes), Tony Battie(notes) and Courtney Lee(notes), two league executives told Yahoo! Sports.
The Nets will draft Louisville shooting guard Terrence Willams at No. 11, if he’s still available.

i don’t know about all these financial deals going through, kinda feels like things have been going downhill since that gasol trade. shaq traded for nothing. richard jefferson traded for nothing. miller and foye for #5 pick. I understand the economic climate, but the integrity of the league is further compromised by these types of deals.
from realGM: The Suns could deal Ben Wallace to New Orleans for Tyson Chandler, according to a report from the Arizona Republic.
the hornets and chandler must really dislike each other
cp3 must be thrilled at the possibility of this…
Personally, I’d love to read the fallout resulting from all these trades, SA-MIL included.
patience, my friend
in the days to come, i’ll post a draft recap and break down all the trades. you know more are coming, too…
So true. It’s beginning to look like an apple-cart turnover. I suspect that the SA-MIL deal got the ball rolling for everyone else.
I know this is totally off topic and puts a damper on things, but I gotta say something about the crazy stuff going down today of all days.
First off, Farrah, who, regardless of what you think of her, we can’t deny fought bravely through a horrific disease, and sets the perfect example of the human spirit.
And then Michael, who, regardless of what you think of him, was one of the greatest entertainers of modern times. Say what you will about his private life, but onstage, there was no denying that he was the “King of Pop”.
No offense in leaving out anyone else who has passed recently (I know Ed McMahon left us a few days ago, then there was the recent tragic events in Iran and the Air France plane crash).
May all these people rest in our memories and rest in peace.
Sweet mother of Blair, look who we ended up with! :/
Mr. “I can’t find my ACLs on this x-ray!”
Oh well – at least we have Jefferson to look forward to.
Geez, Buser, I hope your gut is right about this cat.
dont complain, you may have gotten the steal of the draft there. And at pick 104 or whatever it was, where you gonna get anyone better?
apparently some docs reckon he will break down over time, but all you really want is a couple of decent years anyway and you dont have to guarantee him squat. To me it looks like the Spurs have done it again..
Yeah, that’s what I read about him on yahoo – it’s pretty much a “got nothing to lose” situation. The Jefferson trade shored us up with that respect. All we really need is a big to back up Duncan. So the Spurs mindset is that it’s worth the gamble.
I just can’t get over the comment that one GM couldn’t find his ACL’s on film. That just freaks me out!
Quick thoughts on Fantasy Player winners and losers from yesterdays draft and recent trades:
Winners:
Conley – no Rubio or other PG drafted. The job is clearly his with little competition.
Westbrook – team drafted a SG & C and obviously feel that he’s their PG of the future. What a relief, huh Ashley?
Anthony Randolph – GS did not draft Jordan Hill and it actually looks like they may move Biedrins, Wright, and Curry for Amare. He could get big minutes next season.
Calderon – drafted their future starting SG. No real competition at PG for Jose.
Lopez and Courtney Lee – Harris is already a stud. Someone has to pick up the stats of Carter and I see these 2 taking big steps forward in year 2.
Jameer Nelson – Alston is gone so the PG minutes are all his again.
Brandon Rush – Pacers went with a PF and considering that Dunleavy is out indefinitely, the SG spot is all his. He should continue to build on his solid last month of the season.
Losers:
Kevin Martin – drafted a SG at #4 and picked up Rodriguez at PG. Maybe I’m over-thinking this but I don’t see how this doesn’t eat into Martin’s PT.
Rubio/Flynn – they are both clearly PG’s and until a trade or Rubio declaring that he’s staying in Spain, this really hurts both of them.
Monta Ellis – if Curry is packaged to PHX, then forget it. Otherwise, isn’t Curry almost the exact same player as him – a scoring PG.
Lee/Robinson – Drafted a PF/C and PG/SG and picked up Darko. At least one of them is out and their value will fall out of D’Antoni’s system.
Bobcats Back-court – added a SG to the Bell, Felton, & Augustin mix, further diluting all of their values.
Tyrus Thomas – Bulls drafted 2 PF in 1st round. Not good for his value unless he’s traded
yep, yesterday definitely went how i hoped.. westbrook remains PG, brook lopez doesn’t have to watch vince hog all the shots anymore, and the hawks drafted teague.
you left out blair.. he has to be the biggest loser of the draft.
Well, more and more outlets are trying to spin this that the Spurs got away with one by picking up Blair sans ACLs.
According to the local hacks, the team feels he’s fine – no problems with the knees what-so-ever.
And he did manage to put Thabeet on his back last season.
Only thing that’s keeping me from jumping the cliff is the Jefferson trade. But it’s going to be interesting to say the least.
I don’t really care that Blair never missed a game or practice in 2 years at Pitt.. College isn’t the NBA. Let’s see Blair’s knees hold up over 82+ games of NBA basketball. I’d be surprised if he can even play one full season. And let’s see if he can play 10 minutes without picking up 5 fouls.
ESPN analysts aren’t NBA scouts. Just because ESPN had Blair as a lottery pick, it doesn’t mean he should’ve been one.
you really could consider blair a big winner in that he’s going to have the opportunity to be an instrumental player for a championship contender from the get-go. maybe that will make up for some of the coin he lost slipping like he did
