shaun livingston started and played 31 min for the thunder (7 pts, 6 ast, 0 to). james harden had 17 pts in 21 min. ryan anderson had 21 pts, 7 reb, 3 ast, 1 stl, 1 blk in 37 min for ORL

mike sweetney, robert swift, and nick fazekas are among the names on the celtics’ roster. eric maynor did a little for the jazz (9 pts, 4 reb, 4 ast) but they shot terribly and got blown out

    • Cap. says:

Speights is gonna be this year’s Turiaf/Birdman if he can’t find minutes behind Brand and Dalembert.

I’ll definitely be watching where Anderson goes in drafts early on.

THE Mike Sweetney? I thought he was a gym teacher somewhere.

    • dasein says:

summer league is something of a Siren for fantasy players I reackon. Nothing else is happening so you get drawn in, with a tendency to get hyped on guys that generally wont see more than 10 mins a night, or will be rubbish if they do. They drag you in and then come draft time you find yourself dashed against the rocks. This year I’m gonna make an effort to ignore it….probably….I hope….

      • mbuser says:

you don’t want to overreact to numbers (kinda like baseball spring stats) but it can certainly show you who might be ahead of his inexperienced peers when they have consistently good performances. plus, we’ve got no other hoops to follow right now, so why not pay attention? ;)

  2. Problem Gasolved says:

you think anderson will have a good year? i remember seeing some good games when he was getting minutes…

  3. Problem Gasolved says:

Kind of unrelated to the article…but how high do you think Bargnani is going to go next year. I will already have Dwight Howard and Amare so idk how high i want to get another center.

    • Cap. says:

I personally wouldn’t be upset if I got Bargnani in the mid-third round, but with those centers I’d draft a PG, unless you want an absolutely dominant frontline. I could see him putting up 18p/8r/2a/1s/1b/1.5t/1.5to or so, and he shoots 85% from the line, so a great C3.

      • mr. gm says:

I believe he’s more of a C2. As for your ADP, I have him ranked in the 7th round. Huge reach for you, don’t you think? I’d rather have Murphy, Aldridge, D. Lee, Okur, B. Lopez, Diaw, and Horford, thank you very much. As for REB, he never averaged more than 5.3 for an entire season. I’m still looking to target him though, as his funky and diversified stats intrigue me. Not playing devil’s advocate here, just letting you know ;)

        • Cap. says:

Well again, if he says he “already has Dwight and Amare” I gotta assume it’s a keeper league, and in that case, I think Bargnani’s “Concensus Keeper Ranking” of 35 is about right. He’s sure to improve across the board with another year under his belt, and a Hedo pick-and-roll scenario has me salivating.

    • mbuser says:

i snagged him in rd 5 pick 57 in the recent yahoo five-round mock. certainly was happy to do so, but i have a feeling that raptors homers won’t let him fall that far this coming season, eh cap? ;)

      http://sports.yahoo.com/fantasy/blog/roto_arcade/post/Fantasy-Hoops-Mock-Draft-Round-5?urn=fantasy,174574

bargnani isn’t a bad C3 pick for that squad (or any other) because he doesn’t deliver the typical C line (3PTM) and he certainly will be worth giving a UTIL spot to

  4. mbuser says:

CDR went for 27 tonight. speights had a pretty poor follow-up to his big game. neither jrue holiday nor terrence williams did much. harden, westbrook, hibbert, and hansbrough came strong

    • So-Tex Spurs says:

What the hell was Orlando doing against Westbrook in Game #2 (July 6th), “Hack-a-Shaq”?

Ashley’s boy goes 3 of 11 from the field, but still scored 22 pts – either Orlando was giving him NOTHING, or Russel STILL can’t find his shot. 16 of 18 from the line with 9 dimes is great and all, but 27% from the field doesn’t get me too excited.

Dude’s gonna have to figure out how to get some of those shots to fall.

  5. Ashley says:

9-16 FG, 8-8 FT, 26 pts, 5 ast, 4 reb, 5 stl.. Westbrook is making it look too easy folks. Keep hatin on my boy

    • dasein says:

Summer league- where role players looking like studs happens!

Before you rail on me, i like westbrook, I think he’s legit and I dont think he’s a roleplayer. But summer league…just sayin…

      • So-Tex Spurs says:

        *cue music*

“Summer league makes me feel fine.

Blowing through the jasmine in my mind.”

Ahhhh – the great fantasy basketball hit of 1972.

      • Ashley says:

Coaches are staying up all night trying to figure out how to slow down Westbrook, and it can’t be done.

What do you expect from him this season?

        I think 17-18 pts, 6.5 ast, 5.5 reb, 1.5 – 2 stl, 44% FG is reasonable

        • So-Tex Spurs says:

If he can manage 42% I’d take him just because of his upside everywhere else. I’d be worried about him falling back into the high 30’s, though. I think that’s going to be the give and take with him throughout his career.

          • Ashley says:

Does Rondo have a jump-shot? No. Does Tony Parker have a jump-shot? No. Plenty of PGs shot around 40% as rookies, just like Westbrook. Parker and Rondo are up near 50% now. Give players time to adjust… Once again, it’s stupid to think you know what to expect from a player based on his rookie year. Westbrook attacks the basket, and once he gets stronger and better at finishing around the rim his FG% will be much better. So I’m really not concerned.

If he shot a ton of jump-shots, I’d be concerned. But he doesn’t.

            • So-Tex Spurs says:

I’m not gonna argue what Tony Parker shot as a rookie (*cough* 42% *cough*), but you’re right – I’ll give him some time and see how he does.

In all honesty, I see Westbrook as having a solid career overall – he’s got the good foundation, all he’s gotta do is build on it. And it’ll happen as long as he doesn’t end up in a dead end situation, and OKC is doing pretty good so far on that front.

Relax, Ash – take a deep breath. I’m not ragging on your boy. I got his back. ;)

            • mookieblaylock says:

First he’s Dwayne Wade Jr., next come the Rondo and Tony Parker comparisons. Let’s just agree that Westbrook’s a combination of all the great young guards in the league and consider him as possibly the best prospect ever. I’m sold in Round 2…..

All kidding aside, he has been impressive in summer league and seems to be in a good situation in OKC. Let’s just hope that he really works on his outside shot and keeps his FG% above .400%. He also needs to cut down on the TO’s before he jumps into the top 50.

Speaking of the Orlando league (and I know it’s only summer league), I can’t help but be impressed by what Hansbrough, Hibbert, and Ryan Anderson have done. All 3 appear to be solid late round sleepers at this point.

              • Ashley says:

Actually Westbrook’s game and shot selection is nearly identical to Wade’s. But Wade was older and bigger as a rookie, so he did a better job of finishing.

I threw Rondo and Parker out there just as examples that plenty of PG’s have horrible shots and shot 40% as rookies and now they’re shooting near 50%, so it’s too early to write Westbrook off as a poor shooter.

I saw that Hansbrough was 2-2 from 3 in one of the games, that was kinda surprising. Maybe he wants to be like Murphy….

        • dasein says:

if he can shoot 44% he’ll prob average closer to 20ppg. Would be nice to see, but not sure Id bank on that much improvement. All the other numbers sound reasonable though. If he can get TOs under 3 will be a step foward too.

  6. dasein says:

Just had a read of that yahoo 5-round draft you participated in Matt. Twas a bit of fun. Man, you got slammed in the comments for taking Murphy at 15. Cant say I disagree with them, but at the same time I wouldnt be surprised if it worked out. I think you did pretty well though, especially in the last 2 rounds. More than I can say for some of your fellow ‘experts’. Everytime that Del-Don-Dude picked I was left shaking my head…

    • Ashley says:

He got destroyed for that pick… But Buser’s apparent confidence in Murphy means he’s most likely going to be my pick 1st pick in the 6th rd in my keeper league.

I didn’t really pay attention to the draft after the 2nd round.. I was mainly just interested in seeing where everyone was being drafted in the 1st rd.

    • mbuser says:

i’m slowly putting together a post on the draft so that we can take a closer look at things. i’m technically on vacation this week though, in south florida, so that’s why it’s coming together slowly

  7. championvenom says:

I just got to see Branden Jennings 1st practice with the Bucks some and I know it was with all rookie/2nd year sqauds but I have to say it was exciting. Not because of any numbers, cause I have no idea what they’d be, but just the tools he showed. He is blazing quick, flew in transition, and made some really good/smart passes on the break. I didn’t see much halfcourt stuff, which I think is part due to the group he played with. but overall I’m not sure things are as bleak in Milwaukee as everyone on here seems to be making it out to be.

    • So-Tex Spurs says:

Don’t get me wrong – these kids are gonna be good, especially Jennings. What the Bucks have to deal with are the other moves they’ve made so far.

They traded away Jefferson for nothing (I like Fab and Bowen, but building your team is not based on a popularity contest), then they let arguably their best player in Charile V walk – just like that! And on top of that, the contract extension they DID offer was to Sessions – I really like Sessions, used him on a couple of my fantasy teams at one point or another this past season. But you gotta scratch your head and wonder “Why?” If Ridnour is not your man, I would see it. But then why draft Jennings?

You see, it doesn’t add up – unless they’re planning another big move before the season starts, and the way this off-season is playing out so far, I wouldn’t doubt if it happens. As a Buck fan, you would have to hope that IF another deal is made, it works out for the balance of your team.

Of course, you could always apply the strategy I’ve been endorsing lately – start 4 guards and a SF to play the five. Nice bit of basketball genius there, if I do say so myself… ;)

      • mookieblaylock says:

Ridnour is in the last year of his deal at $6.5M. If they lock up Sessions to a long term deal at $6M+ a year, then I think the Bucks really push to move Ridnour. He obviously is not part of their long-term plans and it would seem crazy not to give the starting PG job to Sessions with Redd coming back at SG. Bell can back up both G spots and Jennings will have time to develop and play about 12 minutes a game.

      • mr. gm says:

Boy, So-Tex, you love using those wink smileys haha. Anywho, I am lost along w/ everybody else as to what direction this team is going. They lost RJ and Cholly Villy, and brought in aging vets w/ expiring contracts and the immature chump known as Brandon Jennings (see YouTube). I’m Ron Burgundy? If Amir starts at PF, he should have a nice ST/BLK combo going, given ample PT. Redd should have another career year, if healthy, w/ virtually no legitimate scoring help now. Bogut expected to make strides last season, but failed, AND his killer FT% and balky back didn’t help anybody (along w/ Josh Smith, thanks for tanking my FT% in my roto league).

        • So-Tex Spurs says:

          ;) :) :| :o :p :b :D

          Did I miss one?

        • mookieblaylock says:

I actually think that the Bucks have a plan and that they’re going to improve this year. They were actually playing well under Skiles until all of their injuries finally caught up to them. For as much as I don’t like Skiles for his negative effect on his player’s fantasy values, he usually gets positive results from his teams. The bottom line with Charlie V is that he isn’t a star and was not a Skiles-type player. The Bucks backed their coach and didn’t even want to play around with a qualifying offer that might bring him back.

I’m fairly certain that they will re-sign Sessions and he will be the starting PG. As of now, the depth chart should be:

          PG – Sessions/Ridnour**/Jennings
          SG – Redd/Bell
          SF – Mbah a Moute/Alexander
          PF – Thomas/Amir Johnson
          C – Bogut/ Gadzuric

I think Bowen will be cut and any other player has extremely limited fantasy value. Johnson definitely has talent and could play himself into significant minutes but his problem has always been staying out of foul trouble. If he can cut those down and secure 25+ minutes a night, then he will have decent value.

          Stay Classy Milwaukee…

          • championvenom says:

Yeah, I think they have a decent plan too. Villanueva was good last seaosn, but he didn’t start putting up numbers until Redd and Bogut went down. Someone had to put up numbers, ala Shareef Abdur-Rahim. I think Ridnour will be dealt or let go at the end of the season, they wanna bring Ersan Illyasova back from Europe who is a 3/4 who can shoot which should help a lot. And I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they will sign Josh Childress after he was in town last week.

Also, although his numbers didn’t show it, Bogut was having an awesome year last seaosn and if he can stay healthy is one of the best centers in the east. his numbers don’t look it, but he’s a guy you want out there playing.

  8. Ashley says:

Zaza coming back to ATL. If only Josh Smith had half the heart Zaza has..

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BX37hc_Vu4

  9. Cap. says:

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, Brian Colangelo is a GENIUS! Just when it looked like we’d have to mortgage our whole team for Hedo, he pulls off this Marion deal, allowing us to keep Delfino, add Wright and George, and possibly sign Nesterovic. Not that these guys are big difference makers or anything, but at least we have some depth at SG now, and some capable bigs off the bench in Evans and (hopefully) Rasho.

Not to mention, locking up Bargnani, while it might seem a bit premature, was a great move. Now we have a nice foundation in Calderon, Bargnani, Hedo, and DeRozan if/when Bosh does leave. The Raps really underachieved last year, and this team is even better, so don’t be surprised if we’re a top 6 team in the East this year.

Sad to see Parker join “the enemy”, he was definitely a fan favorite here, but I’m happy for him, considering he was a nobody 2 years ago, and now he’s playing with two of the best players in the world.

    • mookieblaylock says:

Yeah, I like the Raps prospects for next season both record wise and fantasy wise. If he can stay healthy (which I definitely think he can after a summer of rest), Calderon should be a top 5 fantasy PG. A motivated Bosh, playing with a chip on his shoulder ever since the Shaq comments, is in line to have his best season ever. I was not that high on him last year and he proved me wrong. I would not hesitate to take Bosh late in round 1. I also think that Bargnani will continue to improve and will provide 3+ BLK/3PTS from C. Turk will not be a fantasy star but will be solid and keep double-teams off Bosh and Bargs.

They should make the playoffs but that would mean that either the Hawks, Heat, 76ers, Pistons, or Bulls drop out. Also, the Wizards and Pacers should be a lot better than last year as well. It’s going to be a tight race for the 5-8 seeds in the East.

      • So-Tex Spurs says:

I had Bosh last season as well as Duncan (don’t ask me how THAT happened, I just use autodraft). I rode Bosh practically the whole season – if he doesn’t get caught up in the whole “soap opera” thing (whether he’s staying or going), there’s no reason to think he won’t do the same this year.

I’ve always liked Rasho – he just needs to be more aggressive. If he gets a small edge on him, he can really help you off the bench.

Caleron, Bargnani, Turk…this team’s shaping up to be pretty nice. If they stay healthy they’ll be in the hunt.

      • mr. gm says:

Haha, that drag guy, what’s his name? The ever-playful Shaq, ladies and gentlemen…I’ll nab Bosh 9th (virtually same as you). As for top PG’s, here’s my list so far:

        1. CP3 (no-brainer)
        2. Deron (no-brainer)
        3. Nash (keeps body in tip-top shape + sterling %’s = yayer)
        4. Harris (THE man in NJN; gimpiness and defensive attention worry me)
        5. Calderon (Nash-lite)

        • mookieblaylock says:

That’s right, he called him RuPaul! I sure as hell would be pissed if I was Bosh. I think he’s in for a big year.

Wait a second, where’s Westbrook in your top 5 PG list??!! Haven’t you been following summer league….

          • dasein says:

            score one to mookie :)

            • So-Tex Spurs says:

Don’t worry gm, I got your back.

Westbrook is #6 on that list. ;)

              • Ashley says:

19 pts, 9 ast……… 7 TO.. Ouch. Oh well, no turnovers in my league :)

                • mr. gm says:

Yep, TO’s and FG% are pretty killer. As for TO’s I don’t mind, but has to be taken into consideration as it is standard Y! settings. My take on TO’s: rewarding inactive owners and players who don’t touch the ball? I’m Ron Burgundy? Aside from the aforementioned, he’s still up there. No doubt. He’s from Cali (Long Beach and UCLA) though he’s still my boy. Dude is freakishly athletic…gotta wait for him to put it all together before he goes in the top 5, ya dig?

    • mr. gm says:

Top 6? A bit too optimistic. Still have to give props to Cavs, w/ LBJ leading a team w/ Memphis Grizzlie-esque talent to a successful season where they projected to duel w/ my beloved Lakers for the Larry O’Brien. You still got the Celtics, who w/ the acquisition of Sheed, added yt another veteran winner in the mix w/ proven swag. You got the defending Eastern Conference champs in Magic, w/ the arrival of VC and the beast known as Dwight Howard (1st-team all galaxy?). The Hawks are still pretty solid, able to re-up Bibby, Zaza and acquire Crawford. The Heat situation is up in the air. The Sixers should improve if they effectively incorporate Coach Jordan’s system w/ a healthy Brand and more sharpshooters (enter Kapono). The Baby Bulls have D. Rose (1st-round value in the making) and a solid supporting cast (get healthy Deng!), and the Motor City Makeover w/ BG and Cholly Villy intrigues me a bit, showing the UConn love. I believe they can make it work (watch out for Maxiell). I see the Pacers (w/ Granny Danger leading the charge), Bobcats (excellent acquisition in Diaw, Raja), Wizards (Foye and M&M + healthy Arenas = top 6?) having a more realistic chance than Toronto in making the top 6. As for making the playoffs, the Raps probably can, as I believe they made positive strides so far in this offseason. What I’m trying to say is they didn’t even make the playoffs…I want to see them get more W’s 1st before I mention Toronto in the same sentence w/ playoffs.

PS: Apologies for the long post :)

      • So-Tex Spurs says:

You could be right about it being too soon to mention “Raptors” and “playoffs” in the same sentence. However, the East is an entirely different animal altogether.

Year in and year out, we always talk about how competitive the West is – more strong teams than playoff spots – where in the East (traditionally), depth has been missing for quite some time – it’s usually one or two teams and then everybody else. Recently, it’s gotten better, but it still doesn’t seem like the “balance of power” has shifted from the West.

I think it’s refreshing to finally see teams like Toronto look good enough on paper to actually make a run at an eight or seven seed and actually mean something – not just a token playoff or another bump in the road to the conference finals.

        But, time will tell.

      • Cap. says:

Let’s not forget that the Raptors are only TWO years removed from a 47-win season and an Atlantic Division championship, and that was with only Bosh and Calderon leading the way. Last year’s debacle was filled with injuries, a coaching change, and a failed JO experiment, so don’t let them fly too far under the radar.

I’ll give the obvious nods to CLE and BOS, and maybe an improved ATL, but aside from that, I really don’t think any other teams in the East are that much better. This TOR team is basically ORL of last year, where Calderon is Nelson, Bosh is Dwight, Bargnani is Lewis, Hedo is Hedo, and Wright/Delfino/DeRozan is Lee. WAS should certainly be better, but MIA has done nothing to improve (yet), CHI lost their leading scorer, DET’s days at the top are over, and PHI, IND, and CHA are all question marks. TOR’s starting lineup is better than most of those teams, easily.

        • beaukemon says:

As of right now, I think the East will shake out BOS, CLE, ORL, ATL, WAS, PHI, TOR, MIA/NJN.

It looks similar to two years ago, but I don’t see TOR playing like ORL of last year. Toronto’s threes and D aren’t at the same level.

For me, Chicago is the sleeper team. Without Gordon and with a healthy Deng, they could still be pretty good. Indiana is definitely a question mark.

Also, is Indiana the whitest team ever? I remember reading a Free Darko piece about post-Malice at the Palace Pacers culture and how every black member of the team was automatically referred to as a thug while the white players were great and should stay.

  10. mookieblaylock says:

By the way, how big a jerk has Lebron James been this offseason? First the Magic snub and no apology and now this Dunk Tape-gate. Maybe he belongs in NY after all….seriously though, not a good off-season for the King so far.

    • dasein says:

i imagine that tape think is more Nike’s people than LeBron. How bored must the media be though? I know I am.

    • Cap. says:

To err is human, to forgive divine, to confiscate a tape of you getting dunked on is just pathetic. I think Shakespeare said that.

      • So-Tex Spurs says:

        Yeah! Shakespeare rocks!

        Go Hamlet!!!

        • So-Tex Spurs says:

Seriously though, I read about this mess from yahoo, but I couldn’t find the original post (“Ball Don’t Lie”, or “The Dagger”), but I found the basic quotes and story from CBS sports online (of all places).

          http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/6271764/15942689

Sounds like the cameraman didn’t get ANY memos about “Dunk-gate 2009″. He’s ready and willing to talk to just about anyone who will listen.

      • Ashley says:

The King was totally taken advantage of…

He was playing in a friendly, no defense pickup game.. Little did the King know that some no-name college kid was going to try to make a name for himself by dunking over LeBron when LeBron wasn’t even paying attention (probably signing autographs for terminally ill children).

The evidence was taken and destroyed. That’s Communism for you. The King controls all media. Everyone who was there should be thankful that the King chose not to also have all witnesses of the dunk murdered, because he could’ve…

Keep hating on my keepers.. LeBron and Westbrook feed off it, they’re gonna have monster seasons as a result. I can’t wait.

    • dasein says:

there is a link to a radio interview with the guy who apparently took the film on espn’s NBA homepage. He makes it sound like BronBron was behind it.

Still…we have climate change, Kim Jong ll firing rockets, and flu pandemics. Tape-gate is just silly. :-

      • So-Tex Spurs says:

Oh, you just wait – there will be congressional hearings on this before all is said and done.

Our tax dollars will be hard at work on this one!

    • mr. gm says:

They had a policy about no tapes. I would LOOOVVEEE to see that though. But rules are rules :)

Nellie still likes Anthony Randolph, right? I’ve rarely seen a guy play with so much passion. He’ll be my sleeper pick in the 8th round.

      • Cap. says:

I definitely don’t think you can call Randolph a sleeper anymore, and I’d be surprised if he lasts that long in drafts. I think it’s safe to say he’s Nellie’s guy if he wouldn’t even trade him for Amar’e.

  13. mr. gm says:

Dude is freakishly athletic. I have him ranked in the 9th-round, but w/ all this hype and his stellar play in the summer league, his stock could easily skyrocket if it has not already. Guess I will be losing a sleeper this season :(

  14. Ashley says:

It sucks because the guy who had Yao in my keeper league also had Anthony Randolph.. And since Yao is most likely done he’ll get to choose someone else. I tried to talk him into picking AI, but I’m sure he’ll end up choosing Randolph.

  15. nsink says:

Do you have any good info on arenas? think he can provide 1st round value at a discounted price due to injury concerns like Yao last season?

    • Problem Gasolved says:

Gilbert Arenas’ weight is the lowest it’s been in five years, and he is said to fully trust his surgically repaired knee.
NBA TV’s Rick Kamla posted the information via Twitter, with head coach Flip Saunders and the front office’s Tommy Sheppard supplying the details. Both facts are big news for Arenas and his potential fantasy value, so it’s conceivable that brave owners could spend a late first-round pick on him.

      according to Rotoworld

    • mbuser says:

he certainly can provide first-round value – i’m not ready to bank on it quite yet, though. and it’s hard to be sure what the discount will be when drafts count, but i was able to grab him in the 3rd on the five-round yahoo mock

  16. Ashley says:

60% of NBA players are broke within 5 years of retiring. Is anyone surprised that it didn’t take Antoine Walker 5 years??

    • dasein says:

Can’t say im surprised, but am a little saddened. Toine, was my main man once apon a time. It’s surprising to me that the league, or individual teams, or even the players association dont put something together to help train these guys in financial management. They all have agents to help get the money, but no advisors to help them manage it? Doesnt make sense to me.

      • Ashley says:

It doesn’t matter.. NFL and NBA rookies go through seminars that are supposed to inform them how to stay out of trouble and manage their money, but most of the players probably sleep through it. you hear all these stories about people who win the jackpot and it ends up ruining their lives and their broke a few years later.. NBA and NFL is basically the same thing.

they go lease a bunch of flashy cars, buy a few mansions, throw a bunch of parties, hook up their entourages, blow money gambling, get a bunch of different women pregnant, etc… then what do you know, they’re 30 years old all of a sudden and have to retire. they have a few million left in the bank, but have thousands of dollars worth of monthly expenses with no more income. a few years later they’re bankrupt at the age of 35. they have 40 years left to live and have an IQ of 80, good luck getting a decent job. hopefully they enjoyed it while it lasted.

i wonder what sprewell is up to these days…

      • So-Tex Spurs says:

That’s what happens when you have young players come out early and don’t finish college. I’m not saying that Walker was one of those – I really don’t know or remember.

But if you notice, most of the guys who were drafted after four years of college and had successful careers in the NBA, usually ended up with degrees in business management or an equivalent thereof. You learn how to manage your money pretty quick that way I imagine.

It’d be interesting to see what percentage of the 60 actually finished college, and what degrees did they get. I’d put good money that most of those guys came out early.

The only exceptions to the rule I could would be Kobe and LeBron. I don’t know Kobe’s financial situation or background, but I would venture to guess LeBron has dear, sweet, Mama to thank for grounding him in financial reality – although…the woman did buy him a Hummer when he was drafted – Hmmmmmmm…

        • Ashley says:

i would imagine guys like lebron, kobe, KG, and wade will never have financial worries again.. but if tyson can blow through $200 million in like a decade, then i guess those guys could also blow it all.

      • Ashley says:

and i can’t say i feel the least bit sorry for those guys.. most of them are so shallow and full of themselves, it’s ridiculous. maybe it’s because i’m not a liberal, but it’s hard for me to sympathize for a pro athlete. mcnair was called a “legend” and “hero” despite having multiple affairs (and who “buys” a girl an escalade as a gift, then makes her make the payments???). yeah he played with a lot of heart, but he’s definitely not a hero. same goes for michael jackson.

but anyways, the people who deserve your sympathy are the families in 3rd world countries who don’t even have clean water or the opportunity to get an education. don’t feel sorry for the dumb thugs like walker, vick, sprewell, pacman, and eventually marbury (to name a few) who blew millions of dollars on trash and end up broke.

Some highlights from Kevin Arnovitz’s smmerleague twittering:

“It took 2:14 for me to notice that Thabeet was in the game.”

“Board comes off MEM basket and literally hits Thabeet in the face, then drops into Dragic’s hands.”

“Earl Clark gets OffReb over Thabeet., who has 0 rebounds.”

“Sorry. Don’t mean to turn this into Thabeet hatefest…but he just got blocked on the offensive end by Clark.”

Ladies and gentlemen, your 2009-2010 Memphis Grizzles, and your no.2 draft pick.

Deer in the headlights, baby! Deer in the headlights!!! 8O

    • mbuser says:

When asked what has been the biggest adjustment for him thus far, Thabeet replied: “The game pace. The guys are so big and fast and as strong as you. When you go out there you’ve got to be ready.”

“I’ve only played basketball now for a short time, just a couple of years,” Thabeet explained. “To me, I’m progressing pretty well. I definitely know I am going to work harder than the other guys because they’ve been playing basketball their whole life and I’ve been playing basketball only for a short time. In order to win the battle I’m going to have to work harder than them.”
